Will He Go With Our Armies? God's People Must Decide!
If Your people are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You when they come to themselves repent, andreturn to You with all their heart heartheir prayer maintain their cause, and forgive (2 Chr 6:24-25, 35-39; 7:12; see also Ps 81:13-14; Is 5:4-5).
The September 11th attack on America evoked strong leadership from our new President and a wave of patriotism among Americans. Yet, Bible-believing Christians tremble that our humility and repentance, necessary for God's blessing upon our war effort, are missing. Our nation remains deeply vulnerable. We must ask God to "train [our] hands for war and [our] fingers for battle." We must cry out to God to bring repentance, to restore His hedge of protection around our beloved nation and to go with our armies. America will face more bitter losses unless God's people "make up the hedge" through prayer.
This Is A Religious War! While most Muslims hold more moderate views, the extremists who waged the attacks on America serve a god who loves hatred and death. Their god is not the God of the Bible, the God of grace and justice. Their god impels them by demonic power and anti-Christ and anti-Semitic loathing. A coalition of their radical religious leaders has called all Muslims to make Jihad (holy war) against Israel and the U.S. They believe that "Islam, the True Religionwill defeat all other religionsby Allah's will, through the Muslim Jihad fighters" (from Palestinian high school textbooks - News Report from Jerusalem, 9/17/2001). Jews and Christians who resist the Jihad are enemies of Allah. "The reward of those who make war against God [Allah] and His Apostle [Mohammed]is only that they shall be slaughtered or crucified, or their hands cut off and their feet on alternate sides (The Koran).
President Bush needs supernatural discernment to lead amid our national crisis. Yet some are taking actions that may emasculate our defense efforts in the long run. Colin Powell and the State Department are seeking to recruit nations for a multinational coalition. Many are themselves notorious instigators of terrorism (e.g., Yasser Arafat's Palestinian Authority, Bashar Assad's Syria and Ayatollah Khameini's Iran). God gave nations the power of the sword to exercise justice, but condemns evil alliances (2 Chr 16:7-9; Is 31:1-3; 2 Cor 6:14). Washington Democrats, outwardly supporting our President, are undermining his policies and administration by preventing confirmation of critical top personnel. If we advance on the strength of pride, patriotism, and faith in our mixed alliances, we may discover that God has not gone with us. Pastor David Wilkerson has for decades warned America of God's coming judgment (with special warning to New York City). He now warns that if America's preachers do not boldly preach the message of Biblical repentance, America is doomed. In a post-attack sermon at his Times Square Church near the decimated World Trade Center, Wilkerson said America's only hope may be a Josiah-like revival led by President Bush (2 Kg 22:1-23:28 - see http://www.timessquarechurch.org/wtc/01-nl14.txt & http://www.timessquarechurch.org/media/010916-3-b.ram ).
Our polytheistic prayers will never gain God's favor. Having eradicated prayer and any mention of God and America's Christian heritage from our schools and public life, we are now constructing a new, polytheistic civil religion, one that includes Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, etc. President Bush's inauguration speech ("churches, synagogues and mosques"), his "faith based initiative" and the National Day of Prayer & Remembrance give evidence to this. At the National Cathedral prayers were offered to "the God of Abraham and Muhammad and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ" during the National Day of Prayer & Remembrance ceremony. In this critical hour when God's Elijahs should be calling America to return to the God of the Bible, America is affirming a new pantheon of foreign Gods. This war could give American Muslims a new role in American public life. If we lightly esteem the God of the Bible while honoring Allah and other gods, will the true God of Scripture go with our armies? Even our prayers to the true God will not be answered unless offered with repentance.
American support for Israel is critical. During the Gulf War, Pastor David Wilkerson declared that if God blessed our war effort against Iraq it would be for Israel's sake, for our guilt of the shed blood of tens of millions of innocent unborn children would otherwise prevent Him from going with our armies. In that war, we strangely demanded that Israel accept the slaughter of her own people by incoming scud missiles - without retaliation - to appease the Muslim members of the coalition. Even now, the U.S. is pressuring Israel to refrain from retaliating against escalated Palestinian attacks insisting instead that Israel discuss terms of peace with terrorist Yasser Arafat. The U.S. will be under added pressure to restrain our Israeli allies and to weaken our commitment to them. To do so would be to bow the knee to Allah.
Next Round of Attacks. The first attacks demonstrated that our enemies are vile, reprehensible, demonically inspired terrorists with honed psychological warfare skills and no bounds to their sadistic cruelty. We have seen just the beginning of their suicidal mass murders. They possess biological and chemical weapons capable of inflicting devastation upon citywide populations. With enemies like this, only God's supernatural protection can preserve us from further horrors.
God's people hold the key - God has given His people a very narrow window of opportunity to call America back to Him (2 Chr 7:14). Will we now humble ourselves, seek His face and turn from our wicked ways? Will we lift up our voices like a trumpet and call America to repentance and faith in Christ? Will God requite the blood of 50 million innocent unborn American children murdered by abortion since 1973, with the shed blood of born children and adults? God has removed His hedge. Hopefully we will heed this remedial judgment. If we can't hear the silent screams of millions of innocent babies, He may allow us to hear the screams of millions already born. God commands we repent for abortion, idolatry, immorality, and all the other sins we have committed " but most of all, for our abandonment of Him.
