Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you (1 Peter 5:6-7).

As we enter into a tumultuous season involving Christmas, a New Year and the beginning of the Election Process, I think it might behoove us to reflect on these topics -- POWER and PRAYER.

I came upon some interesting quotations from important historical figures on these two subjects*:

All I want is a warm bed and a kind word and unlimited power.

Ashleigh Brilliant

There is danger from all men. The only maxim of a free government ought to be trust no man living with power to endanger the public liberty.

John Adams

The release of atom power has changed everything except our way of thinking. The solution to this problem lies in the heart of mankind. If only I had known, I should have become a watchmaker.

Albert Einstein

Power is my mistress. I have worked too hard at her conquest to allow anyone to take her away from me.

Napoleon Bonaparte

The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed or elective, may just be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.

James Madison

Their insatiable lust for power is only equaled by their incurable impotence in exercising it.

Winston Churchill

Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men! Do not pray for tasks equal to your powers. Pray for power equal to your tasks.

Phillip Brooks

Pray as though everything depended on God. Work as though everything depended on you.

To be a Christian without prayer is no more possible than to be alive without breathing.

Martin Luther King, Jr.

I have had prayers answered -- most strangely so sometimes -- but I think our heavenly Father's lovingkindness has been more evident in what He has refused me.

Lewis Carroll

Pray often, for prayer is a shield to the soul, a sacrifice to God, and a scourge to Satan.

John Bunyan

Prayer has comforted us in sorrow and will help strengthen us for the journey ahead.

George W. Bush

All around us we see men and women corrupted by their lust for POWER. God forbid that they should achieve their wicked ends! Only PRAYER can reverse the course of history and save us from being ruled by such men and women.
