WHY We Need to Pray;
Ask Jonathan Edwards!
Thus says the LORD of hosts:
"Peoples shall yet come,
Inhabitants of many cities;
The inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying,
'Let us continue to go and pray before the LORD,
And seek the LORD of hosts.
I myself will go also.'
Yes, many peoples and strong nations
Shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem,
And to pray before the LORD." (Zech 8:20-22)
Since we know the topics about which we need to Pray (see the Articles and Videos listed below), let's consider WHY we need to Pray. Please consider America's greatest philosopher and theologian, JONATHAN EDWARDS:
"God will give a great Spirit of Prayer to His people, causing them to come into agreement, united by Prayer to God in an extraordinary manner; that He would appear to help His Church, in Mercy to mankind; to pour out His Spirit, Revive His Work, and advance His Spiritual Kingdom in the world as He has promised…
"In this manner Christianity shall be proliferated til the Awakening reaches us in the Highest Stations, and til whole nations are awakened." ~ c. 1747
Edwards helped launch the first Great Awakening. He believes that once God sees His people much engaged in Prayer for Mercy and Revival, it will not be "long delayed".
He believes that when His Church is in a "low state" and oppressed by her enemies, and CRIES to Him, He will "swiftly fly to her relief" (see Is 31:5).
So, brethren, will we join with Edwards and other Giants of the Faith and CRY for "Relief"? Edwards assures us that God will hear our PRAYERS and RESPOND.
