"The Blueprint for the

Battle of the Ages"

"And behold, two blind men sitting by the road, when they heard that Jesus was passing by, CRIED OUT, saying, 'Have MERCY on us, O Lord, Son of David!'" (Matt 20:30)

Commentary:

My former CHPA colleague, Pierre Bynum (now working with Tony Perkins at the Family Research Council), writes:

"We must keep pressing on no matter how discouraging circumstances may be at moments. We are in the battle of the ages, and God has given us the blueprint, the Holy Spirit's leadership and Power, and the name of Jesus which is above all names."

Most of us sense that we are in "the battle of the ages".  Indeed, God has given us "the blueprint" which is POWERFUL, FERVENT PRAYER!

The two blind men referred to in the Scripture above were DESPERATE.  They realized this may be their only chance to experience a miracle of Jesus. In their desperation, they CRIED OUT for God's MERCY.

Commenting on this, Matthew Henry writes:

"They cried out as men who were impassioned… Those that would prevail in prayer, must stir up themselves to take hold of God… This is wrestling with God in prayer…the more it is striven for, the more it will be prized and thankfully acknowledged… They ask not for silver and gold… but mercy… This is what our hearts must greatly desirethat we may find mercy" (Heb. 4:16; Ps. 130:7)

Brethren, let me emphasize once again:

  • We are in "the battle of the ages"
  • God has given us "the blueprint"
  • The Blueprint involves Desperate, Fervent Prayer
  • Pray that we "find MERCY" rather than ever-increasing Judgment
  • We must plead with God to save us
