WAS ROMNEY RIGHT? ARE THE FLOODS “BIBLICAL”?

Dear Brethren:

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually, and the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart (Gen 6:5-6)

Governor (and probable presidential candidate) Mitch Romney (R-MA) said on Tuesday that the overwhelming floods in New England “seemed almost Biblical.”

Was Gov. Romney correct? Were the floods “Biblical,” (i.e., initiated by the Lord)? Romney cited the case of Noah to embellish his reference.

As noted above, Noah was warned by God that “the wickedness of man was great” and the “thoughts of his (man's) heart was only evil continually.” The Lord also observed that “the earth was corrupt and… filled with violence” (v. 11). Hence the floods came as the Lord determined to cleanse the earth of such wickedness.

Would the Lord make such a determination for New England (NE) today? With the exception of San Francisco, NE is the most vehemently anti-Christian section of the United States; it vigorously promotes unbiblical attitudes, militant feminism, policies, teachings and heresies (see both the Harvard and Yale Divinity Schools for example - the latter being my alma mater, to my shame); it is a stronghold of immorality (e.g., the homosexual “marriage” initiative in Romney's own state and the ardent promotion of abortion); it is filled with pride, pomposity and arrogance (I lived in and went to school in NE for twelve years); it believes it is THE ELITE, far above and better than everyone else (including God - if He exists).

So, what about my question at the top of the last paragraph? I cannot speak for God. These types of Biblical events have happened for millennia (even very recently) and, if one understands God's hatred for the type of sin so manifest in NE, could be happening today.

You be the judge! Whatever we decide about NE we must all REPENT, for our own regions are not much different when it comes to wickedness, corruption, violence, evil hearts, and pride. REPENTANCE is our only hope - that, in His Wrath, God will be MERCIFUL to us (Hab 3:2).

I believe the Bible (and history) clearly show that, without REPENTANCE, our nation (not just New England) will surely perish one way or another (it may be happening already). I welcome any observations you may have about the above.
