PONDERING PRES. BUSH & HARRIET MIERS
Dear Brethren & Others:
But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart (Lk 2:19).
Not that I have as pure a heart as Mary, but, as a human being who has been assigned the role of Watchman by the Lord, I also PONDER certain significant matters in my heart and spirit.
Let me start today by thinking and wondering with you about the nomination of HARRIET MIERS:
- Is President Bush really as serious as he ought to be (and as the Lord requires him to be) about overturning Roe v. Wade?
- If so, does he care that Miers personally gave $415 to Hillary Clinton’s PAC (reminder: Hillary is one of the most pro-abortion politicians in the USA as well as one of the most evil)?
- Are we concerned that Miers recently said she really admires former Chief Justice Warren Burger who, incidentally, voted FOR Roe v. Wade and assigned the decision-writing to Harry Blackmun?
- Do we understand the importance of the worldviews of those who reportedly helped pick Miers – i.e., Chief of Staff Andrew Card and First Lady Laura Bush, both thought to be pro-abortion?
- Does Miers have enough courage, Biblical understanding and Fear of God to face down the God-haters on and off the bench when most of the elite in D.C. will be in favor of what God hates? According to many reports “consensus and diversity” are two major COMPELLING INTERESTS of hers. “She is unrevealing to the point that it’s an obsession,” says one colleague. She seems to have an aversion to conflict. What will happen if Roe v. Wade or any other intense abortion-related issue comes before the Court?
- And finally, for today, in reality is she the best we could get since President Bush knows a REAL pro-life, pro-Constitution, pro-“original intent” person with a paper trail could get “Borked” and bloodied beyond recognition?
There will be more to ponder about this and other matters. For now, may we PRAY:
- That God’s irresistible Will and Power will be executed – His and His alone (Mt 6:10; Lk 22:42; Phil 2:13)!
- That God’s true followers will understand that Roe v. Wade is the central, overarching determinant – that everything must be measured against it and it alone (Nu 35:33)!
