Dear Brethren and Others:

It is unusual, to say the least, to return from our month off to run face first into three hurricanes: Katrina, the death of a wonderful Chief Justice, and the predictable storm over Judge Roberts. Today we will discuss the first and most horrific.

What is God saying to us as a nation through the storm of Katrina? The answer is unmistakably simple: "REPENT or you will likewise perish (Lk 13:3)."

You may wonder why do we, personally and as a nation, need to REPENT? Any serious study of Scripture answers this question probably well over a hundred times ­ see Jer 7:15 for a good summary. Here the Lord uses such words as "innocent blood (abortion) other gods (government) false swearing (corruption) abominations (homosexuality) thievery (gambling)and wickedness (debauchery)." He says He will cast such people "out of His sight" (v 15).

Elsewhere the Lord begs people to "turn from your evil ways. For why should you die? I will judge every one of you according to his own ways" (Ezek 33:10-20).

Rather than try to explain why we need to REPENT before it's too late we are linking to some fine writings on this topic by others.

My messages for us all are simple:

1. God controls winds and waves and not so-called "Mother Nature" (Jer 31:35);
2. Our God is holy, loving and just: It is loving for God to warn us when we have strayed dangerously from Him and must be turned back (Amos 4:7-13);
3. Christian leaders (especially pastors) MUST understand these signs, warn us and lead us unto TRUE REPENTANCE (2 Chr 7:13-14; Lam 3:40-43; Ezek 33:1-20).

If we refuse to pay attention, it is my conviction that we can expect more and more warnings from God (see the Book of Judges, for example). We must pray that we will awaken and turn back to God before we receive the same destiny as the Biblical kingdoms of Israel and Judah as well as the Jewish nation in A.D. 70, all of whom were warned well beforehand numerous times.

Please pray for the understanding of WHY we desperately need to REPENT. Also, please pray that Christians will REPENT and America will embrace another Great Awakening.
