Dear Brothers & Sisters:

There are many Christians, conservatives and liberals who are so wobbly about President Bush's Inaugural Address. "Utopian" say some; "Idealistic and impossible to achieve" say others; "Imperialistic and dangerous" say still a third group; and on and on go the criticisms.
These objections are to be expected from some conservatives and most liberals (especially the weak-kneed elements of the latter), but certainly not from truly Biblical Christians!

"Why not?" you may ask.

Bishop John Chrysostom ("John the Golden Mouthed") wrote in 407 A.D. that Christians have been sent "across land and sea to the whole world." He agreed with Jesus that we are "the salt of the earth ...to free humanity from corruption from its miserable state." In light of our many blessings I also believe God expects the USA to do the same (Lk 12:48).
As Christians you and I are to call on the Holy Spirit to enable us to "proclaim liberty to the captives [and] to those who are oppressed" (Lk 4:18).
Naturally, we understand that the above refers to the Gospel and the spreading of the Kingdom of God. Yet, I ask the nay-sayers, "How can this be achieved without first setting the people free from political and religious tyranny?" (See I Tim 2:1-4).

Christians must enthusiastically endorse and support President Bush's vision if we are to follow the Great Commission (Mt 28:19). True, this is a big job and will take a long time, but do we understand and do we care? Will we stop criticizing and start helping? At last God has given us a leader who, while far from perfect, has a Christian vision (and mantle) to try to change history. Pastors and brothers and sisters, awake, PRAY and get engaged! If you don't, this window of opportunity may be lost forever! Do you want that to be your legacy? I don't!

Perhaps this will be the last opportunity of your lifetime. PRAY HARD! ACT HARD, too!

From your Brother & Watchman in D.C.,
