Seeks "Legacy": Mid-East Peace, Palestinian State

Therefore behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, that it shall no more be said, 'The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of Egypt,' but, 'The LORD lives who brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north and from all the lands where He had driven them.' For I will bring them back into their land that I gave to their fathers (Jer 16:14-15).

Remember Abraham, Isaac, and Israel, Your servants, to whom You swore by Your own self, and said to them÷'all this land that I have spoken of I give to your descendants, and they shall inherit it forever' (Ex 32:13).

A near total media-black-out was imposed this week as the President of the United States, the Prime Minister of Israel and the Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) commenced their hastily organized peace summit at Camp David. In the sunset of his presidency, Bill Clinton faces renewed threats of Middle East war from the terrorist PLO leader, Yasser Arafat, while the government of Ehud Barak (whom Clinton helped defeat Benjamin Netanyahu just over a year ago), is disintegrating.

  • Arafat comes to Washington in a "belligerent mood," having repeatedly declared that he will unilaterally declare a Palestinian state on September 13, if the talks fail. He has also threatened war if Barak fails to meet his impossible demands (the return of 100% of Judea and Samaria, the return of millions of refugees from the 1948 and 1967 wars, and a redivided Jerusalem to serve as the Palestinian capital).

  • Arafat ordered wide-scale violent ("but no shooting") demonstrations against the Israelis before leaving for the U.S. Experts believe that when a Palestinian state is declared, the PLO will immediately mobilize an army of 160,000 men, equipped with hand-held anti-tank and anti-aircraft missile systems secretly supplied by Egypt via tunnels on the Gaza Strip (Independent Israeli Radio, per Eliyahu Ben Haim, Sound the Shofar).

  • Barak, too, is in an aggressive frame of mind. His own Foreign Minister, David Levy, will boycott the summit. Deserted by several parties in his shaky coalition government, Barak narrowly escaped losing a no-confidence vote right before departing for the U.S. Following the vote he angrily addressed the nation, railing, "None of these rejectionists will teach me how to defend Israel and its future÷ No one will teach me what security is." But experts say Barak will give up 90+% of the lands Arafat wants, creating massive security problems for tiny Israel.

Barak is politically weak and very vulnerable. It would be unthinkably evil for an American President now to pressure Israel to abandon its Biblical lands to create a terrorist-led Palestinian state. Yet the common thread in the Clinton foreign policy seems to be animosity toward God's moral law (looking away from the Sudanese Christian holocaust, exaggerating abuses in Kosovo to justify bombing, pandering to the Red Chinese, abandoning our Taiwanese allies, resisting real U.S. missile defense while reaffirming the Mutually Assured Destruction-based Soviet ABM treaty, etc.) Eager to leave a "legacy" in the Middle East, Clinton will muster his considerable personal charm and an arsenal of political deceit, foreign-aid bribes, threats and blackmail to achieve his ambitions. And Clinton's hope for "peace" may be energized more by his (and Hillary's) passion for a Palestinian state (in open hostility to the Bible's many promises of a perma-nent homeland for the Jewish people) than by his longing for a redeemed place in tomorrow's history books.

Please join us in prayer continually while the Camp David summit is in progress.

Lord Teach Us to Pray:

Lord, You are well able to SUSTAIN and PROTECT tiny Israel from American bullying. RULE at Camp David! RESTRAIN Barak, Arafat and Clinton. THY WILL BE DONE! PROVIDE for the Palestinian people but STOP Israel from giving up the lands you promised them, by oath, long ago. ONLY YOU CAN PREVENT WAR. Please have MERCY, In Jesus Name, AMEN (Neh 4:14; Ps 2:all; 53:all; 105:7-12; 121:4; 122:6-8; 127:1; Is 62:1-7).
