"Let everyone who is Godly pray to you while you may be found"  (Psalm 32:6)

On Monday, July 2, House Majority Leader Richard Armey (TX), House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (TX), and House Republican Conference Chairman J.C. Watts (OK) sent a strong appeal to President George W. Bush concerning embryonic stem cell research.

In their appeal they wrote: "It is our sincere hope that the Bush Administration makes the right decision on the stem cell issue to uphold current law and prohibit federal funding of embryonic stem cell research while promoting adult stem cell alternatives... It is not pro-life to rely on an industry of death, even if the intention is to find cures for diseases. We can find cures with life-affirming, not life-destroying, methods that are becoming more promising with each passing day."

The Wall Street Journal reports that Vice President Dick Cheney called House leaders to express concern that their letter "would cheer on the GOP's antiabortion and Catholic allies who oppose the research, but leave them more vexed by any Bush Compromise..."

An alliance of 60 GOP House and Senate 'moderates,' calling themselves the 'Republican Main Street Partnership,' also wrote the president urging him "not to shut the door on research... that could save millions of lives," effectively asking him to break the law by allowing taxpayer dollars to fund the use of embryonic stem cells. Sadly, many of the members of the Republican Main Street Partnership have voted pro-life in the past.

Thursday, President Bush was quoted as saying, "I'm thinking about [embryonic stem cell research]. There are no timetables."

Has God given the American people time to repent for our national sins by giving us George W. Bush as our president? If Pres. Bush turns his back upon those who have no voice, the pre-born, will God continue to hold back His judgment? In his June newsletter Pastor David Wilkerson wrote, "All through the Old Testament, God delayed judgment when a 'seeker after God' was at the helm of government. I believe we will have 'some respite' [from God's wrath] if President Bush seeks God with all his heart and trusts wholly in the Lord for guidance." Let us pray and urge President Bush to be such a seeker after God.
