"Let everyone who is Godly pray to you while you may be found"  (Psalm 32:6)

Harsh Words Won't Work. Prayer is Needed!

Only by pride comes contention: but with the well advised is wisdom (Pr 13:10)

President Bush, continuing to urge patience while the US pursues a policy of "intense diplomacy," called the China standoff a "stalemate" today. But Chinese President Jiang Zemin told an audience of reporters in Uruguay, "Taking into account the important role of the two countries, we have to find a solution...I trust in the ability of both countries to resolve this issue." Yet Jiang stood by China's demand for a formal apology.

--A number of conservative Congressmen and vocal conservative activists have stepped up their public criticism of the President and Red China, despite the President's appeal for patience.

--Meanwhile Communist Chinese leaders, seemingly reveling in their ability to keep the US twisting in the wind, are taking advantage of the accident to fortify anti-American sentiment among the Chinese people and to intimidate their Asian neighbors.

--The Red Chinese leaders are both pagans and communists. The second highest Chinese military official has said "war is inevitable." Who can predict the behavior of these people?

--One good thing has come of this. The American people and our policymakers are being forced to face the fact that China is our nation's greatest strategic challenge now, and will be for decades to come.

The most critical part of the equation is our own nation's need for repentance before a Holy God. Without repentance, our role as the world's only super-power will quickly diminish, and the promises of God's punishment at the hand of China or some other nation will be inevitable (Dt 28:15, 25, 31b-33, 48-52). And we must pray that the Gospel will prosper in China, just as we pray it will prosper here in America (Ps 2:8).

--Heavenly Father, we do not trust in tough words and harsh rhetoric to resolve this stalemate, but look to You to INTERVENE! GOVERN the rulers of our nations. Be with our detained servicemen and women. Cause the American people to AWAKEN & REPENT so You might deal with our enemies. May Your Gospel prevail in both nations. In Jesus' Name, Amen (Jer 10:7-8; Ps 2:all; Pr 15:1-4; Mt 28:18-20).
