DASCHLE STALLS CLONING VOTE
Only a Miracle Can Bring Action this Year

Despite valiant efforts by Senate Republicans, Democrats led by Majority Leader Tom Daschle (D-SD) have refused to allow debate or a vote on a moratorium on human cloning.

--Sen. Daschle, who favors legal "therapeutic" cloning (cloning human beings to harvest their tissues), has thwarted efforts to obtain a vote on a cloning ban, even a temporary six-month moratorium. A moratorium would prevent cloning at least until the full Senate can debate the issue next spring. In July, the House passed a total ban (H.R. 2505).

--Senate liberals have successfully blocked valiant efforts by pro-life Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS) to obtain a vote on S. 790 (the Senate version of H.R. 2505).

--Senate Democrats have promised to debate the matter in February or March. But pro-cloning biotech firms and liberal groups will use the extra time to lobby Capitol Hill policy makers and victims of degenerative diseases that the cure to these devastating diseases is wholly dependent upon "therapeutic" human cloning. They will generate pro-cloning lobbying like was done with the stem cell research issue earlier this year.

--Congress will probably adjourn at the end of this week until January 23, 2002.

In August, President Bush and 90+% of the American people were firmly opposed to all human cloning. But the American people, having lost their Biblical moorings, are easy prey for immoral political charlatans. Now, pro-death Democrats led by Sen. Tom Daschle are obstructing progress on this all-important issue. Christians must pray continuously that S. 790, The Human Cloning Prohibition Act of 2001, be enacted.

Meanwhile, the enactment of state laws may be the only sure way of outlawing cloning. As Christians now turn to celebrate the Incarnation of our Lord Jesus Christ, may we pray to prevail in this matter. We cannot allow American scientists and political leaders to take our nation into a new, nazi-like era in which human life is a commodity to be created and destroyed, bought and sold, as ungodly men see fit, without regard for the God who created us, became One of us and gave His life for our redemption.

--Father, Please INTERVENE! COMPELL our Senators to approve a temporary cloning moratorium, then go on to pass a permanent ban. Somehow REMOVE Tom Daschle & his ideological allies from their positions of political power. CAUSE President Bush to SPEAK OUT boldly against human cloning.

-- May Your people ARISE, PRAY WITHOUT CEASING & ACT to prevent this evil practice from being accepted in our nation. SEND REVIVAL, which alone will turn the American people from ever-increasing wickedness (Gen 11:3-9; Dt 29:29; 30:19-20; 2 Chr 7:14; Ps 1:all; 82:all; 25:4-5; Pr 2:6-7; 8:35-36; Lk 18:1; Phil 2:13-16).
