"Let everyone who is Godly pray to you while you may be found"  (Psalm 32:6)

CONGRESS' SOLEMN ASSEMBLY
"National Day of Reconciliation": a Beginning!

Neither our kings nor our princes, our priests nor our fathers, have kept Your law...nor did they turn from their wicked works (Neh 9:33-35).
Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy (Mic 7:18).
The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation...his hands will also complete it... Who despises the day of small things? Men will rejoice when they see the plumb line in [his] hand... (Zec 4:9-10).

More than 130 members of Congress, a quarter of the 535 men and women elected to serve in the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives, participated in a voluntary, members only "solemn assembly" held in the Capitol Rotunda Tuesday evening.

-According to participants the sense of God's presence was "awesome." One participant, whom CHPA esteems to be a Godly statesman and one not given to emotionalism, said, "I could feel God forgiving us as a nation."

-H.C.R. 184, introduced by House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-TX) and championed in the Senate by Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS), established the "Day of Reconciliation." The measure set aside congressional business so Senate and House members could privately and voluntarily "gather to humbly seek the blessings of Providence for forgiveness, reconciliation, unity, and charity for all people of the United States..."

-The majestic Rotunda was prepared with padded kneelers to allow members to bow before the Lord. Members of various Christian prayer ministries sanctified the sanctuary beforehand with much prayer. While the members of Congress gathered in the Rotunda, non-members gathered for prayer in other rooms in the Capitol and hundreds of Christians prayed on the veranda outside. Those who visited the Rotunda after the assembly say that the strong Presence of God lingered in a remarkable way.

-This gathering was of special importance to those of us at The Capitol Hill Prayer Alert. It was an historic beginning that paves the way for future solemn assemblies not only in our nation's Capitol, but also in state houses, courthouses and other seats of government across America.

Many questions remain: How will this affect the unbelieving members of Congress who were and weren't present? How will the members of Congress now think and conduct themselves? Will this change the way they vote? What will happen if we continue murdering babies, championing homosexuality, etc.? Our Congressmen must now bring forth fruits of repentance. Yet, this heartfelt repentance by a significant remnant was a wonderful beginning.

Please Join Us in Hope-filled Prayer:

-Father, THANK YOU for the men & women in Congress who fear You and know You as Lord. MULTIPLY their numbers. Let their lives IMPACT their colleagues & our nation. Let FRUIT OF REPENTANCE now come forth (Ps 22:22; 107:2; Mt 3:8ff).

-May Solemn Assemblies PROLIFERATE in Churches, business, schools, homes, state houses & courthouses across America. May Christians truly REPENT & PRAY. Allow another GREAT AWAKENING to sweep across our nation. In Jesus' Name, Amen (2 Chr 7:14; Neh 9:all; Dan 9:3-19; Joel 1:13-14; 2:12-18; Jonah 3:6-10).
