"Let everyone who is Godly pray to you while you may be found"  (Psalm 32:6)

SENATE, HOUSE TO PRAY!
Appeal to God for Forgiveness & Reconciliation!

The Ninevites believed God... declared a fast, and all... from the greatest to the least, put on sackcloth. When God saw what they did... he had compassion... (Jonah 3:5-10).

Next Tuesday evening, December 4, 2001, from 5 PM till 7 PM, members of the U.S. House and U.S. Senate will gather in the Capitol Rotunda to pray and seek God for forgiveness and reconciliation on behalf of themselves and our nation. Campus Crusade for Christ is organizing a public prayer meeting outside the Capitol at the same for those who wish to pray for their leaders. Permits are being secured for the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol.

Since the 1999 shooting in Littleton, CO, several Congressmen have been working behind the scenes to pass legislation calling for a National Day of Prayer & Repentance. Their early efforts failed due to the resistance of a handful of antagonistic House members.

The September 11th attacks prompted Congress to move the prayer effort to the front burner, led by House Majority Whip Tom DeLay (R-TX) and Senator Sam Brownback (R-KS).

The prayer effort, initiated in 1999 by then Congresswoman Helen Chenoweth (R-ID), has evolved from being a call from Congress to the American people to pray into a time for our Congressmen and Congresswomen, themselves, to "gather to humbly seek the blessings of Providence for forgiveness, reconciliation, unity, and charity for all people of the United States... "

No member will be forced to participate. DeLay believes the majority will participate and those who do join in will be led to repent and seek God on behalf of themselves and our nation.

We intend to join the Campus Crusade for Christ group on the West Lawn of the Capitol next Tuesday at 5 PM. Won't you join us? Especially if you are in driving distance of Washington, DC! The first Continental Congress opened with prayer, but spontaneous, heartfelt prayers continued for over three hours. With Christians praying outside the Capitol and in homes and churches across America, perhaps the Spirit of God will truly meet our Congressmen as they pray Tuesday. LET US PRAY TO THAT END!

Please Join Us in Supplication to God:

--Heavenly Father, THANK YOU for bringing our leaders to prayer. Visit them by Your Spirit. Cause them to humble themselves in genuine repentance. May many arise from their knees to be permanently changed & resolved to labor for national repentance (2 Chr 33:12-16; Es 4:14-16; Jonah 3:6-7; 1 Tim 2:1-2).

--Touch Christians to come to Washington to pray or to conduct prayer meetings in their churches and homes. May strongholds be torn down in our Nation's Capital as a step toward another Great Awakening (1 Sam 7:3; Neh 9:32-37; Ps 85:3-7; 149:6-9; Is 10:34-36; 22:2-14; Jer 2:8-13; Eph 6:10-18).
