"Let everyone who is Godly pray to you while you may be found"  (Psalm 32:6)

War on Terrorism #1
WILL PANIC OR REPENTANCE GRIP AMERICA?

"Trust in the LORD with all you heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths" (Pr 3:5-6).

On Sunday, October 7, American & British armed forces began air strikes against Taliban and Osama bin Ladin's military installations in Afghanistan. Humanitarian aide also was dropped to help feed the starving population of the country. The air strikes have continued and have hit around 80 % of the intended targets. The strikes have caused America to be on heightened alert for possible retaliation from angry Islamic terrorists.

--In Boca Raton, FL, the FBI is investigating the anthrax death of an employee of a tabloid publishing company. Two other employees were exposed to the deadly spores and are under observation. Investigators are not sure if this incident is terrorist related.

--A Metro subway station near Washington, DC, was closed for several hours Tuesday after a deranged man sprayed an unknown liquid, possibly a cleaning substance, in the station. Days earlier, visitors to the Lincoln Memorial were turned away because of a mysterious order that turned out to be a cleaning agent leaking in a janitorial closet.

--Sales for gas masks and biohazard suits have skyrocketed. Hospitals around the country are undergoing extensive training for chemical and biological terrorism. Airport security has intensified its operations with new rules and regulations. National guardsmen have been called to help with safety measures around the nation.

The need to be watchful and prepared for acts of violence by terrorists is necessary at this time. U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft warns there is a 100% likelihood of another attack on American soil and we should be prepared for news of such an attack. Yet, panic should not be a part of that preparation for Christians. Watchfulness also should include being spiritually prepared: studying and obeying God's Word (Josh 1:8; Ps 119:9-16), praying and fasting (Ezra 8:21-23; Ro 12:12), and focusing upon person repentance as a member of the body of Christ (2 Chr 7:14; Dan 9:3-19). The American Church is in God's balance at this hour. Will we turn back to Him completely or only half-heartedly?

Join Us in Humble Prayer:

--Most Holy LORD, You are a Just and Loving God. You are a Great and Awesome God. Yet, we have sinned and committed iniquity, we have rebelled and turned from Your Word. Righteousness belongs to You while shame is our lot.

--We cry out for mercy in the midst of judgment. Allow Your Church to return to You. Grant us a spirit of repentance for Your Name's Sake.

--Expose any and all plots of evil against Your people. Stop the plans of those who would seek to harm those called by Your Name. In Jesus' Name, we pray! AMEN (Neh 9:all; Dan 9:3-19; Ps 91:all; Mic 7:8-20; Eph 5:8-21).
