"Let everyone who is Godly pray to you while you may be found"  (Psalm 32:6)

U.S. Senate confirmation of Missouri Senator John Ashcroft, George Bush's choice for U.S. Attorney General, will require only a simple majority vote (In our last Alert, we repeated a misstatement from The Washington Times that said a 2/3 majority would be required--sorry!).

Nevertheless, some conservative activists are worried about Ashcroft's confirmation.

Of special concern is the handful of pro-abort Republicans who often vote with the Democrats. Also, while John Ashcroft's record on racial issues is unblemished, Jesse Jackson is trying to paint him as a "racist." While voting to confirm 23 of 26 black federal judicial nominees during his Senate career, Ashcroft opposed the confirmation of Ronnie White, a Supreme Court judge from his home state, to the federal bench. White, a liberal known to be "soft on crime," gained notoriety when he vigorously opposed executing a man convicted of murdering a sheriff, two deputies and an officer's wife (who died in the living room while her family watched). Ought not Americans ask why any Senator, Democrat or Republican, supported and continues to defend pro-criminal, judicial nominees? (see http://www.washtimes.com/commentary/commentary-20001229112725.htm )

Every Democrat will be under heavy pressure to speak out and vote against Ashcroft. But some, who know and respect Ashcroft, have said they likely will vote for him. With the Senate split 50-50 and with Vice President Gore holding the tie-breaking vote for the next 17 days, anything could happen.
(see http://www.washtimes.com/national/default-200114224723.htm )

Anticipating his Supreme Court nominees, Democrats want George Bush to know they will fight every conservative appointment. Conservative leaders say we must pray not just for squishy Republicans but also for every Senator, whether Republican or Democrat, to support Ashcroft, a man some believe "more qualified than anyone who has ever held the office" of U.S. Attorney General.

Please Join us in Believing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for this outstanding nomination. Move, now, upon the heart & mind of each member of the U.S. Senate. Enable them all to ignore political pressure & do what is right. May Christians insist their own Senators support Ashcroft. Turn back all slander upon the heads of its authors. May this godly man handily be confirmed as our next Attorney General. In Jesus' Name. Amen (Dt 16:19-20; 25:1; Ps 5:8-12; 11:all; 31:17-22; 37:32-33; 94:20-23; Pr 16:7; 17:15).
